General Manager, ESPN North Asia
Kelly Cooke is the General Manager of ESPN North Asia, a role she has held since 2016. Cooke is responsible for leading day-to-day management of ESPN’s long-term collaboration with Tencent in China, as well as the growth of partnerships, media distribution, ad sales, and digital media in North Asia – with a focus on China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong in particular. Cooke reports to Mike Morrison, Vice President and General Manager, ESPN Asia Pacific.
Cooke leads strategic guidance, development and oversight for all of ESPN’s business and operations in the region – including digital media, television syndication, as well as the company’s relationship with Tencent, one of China’s, and the world’s, leading providers of online products and services. She is also responsible for identifying and developing new business opportunities in the region, whether through organic growth, acquisition or partnerships.
Based in Hong Kong, Cooke works closely with ESPN executive management and global syndication, sales and digital media teams in developing high quality content, businesses and sales and marketing solutions.
From 2013 through to 2015, Cooke’s role at ESPN Asia Pacific was Commercial Director and Head of Digital Media. Based in Singapore, she was responsible for new growth opportunities for ESPN’s businesses in Southeast Asia and across the Asia-Pacific digital sector. Cooke also had P&L responsibility for these markets, as well as business and product responsibility for ESPN digital businesses and marketing for the region. Cooke was influential in supporting all brands and businesses across the region, and overseeing relationships internally and with affiliates, third party agencies and suppliers in local markets.
Prior to 2013, Cooke held the role of Director of Business and Digital Media for the ESPN Asia-Pacific market. In this position, she was responsible for identifying and exploring new growth opportunities for ESPN’s business in Southeast Asia, as well as having responsibility and day-to-day operational oversight of ESPN’s digital business in the region.
Cooke began her ESPN career in 2004 where she oversaw the ESPN International Mobile business based out of New York City. She started her digital media career in 1995 as a member of the original MTV Interactive team and has also worked for MTV News, Paramount Studios and pioneering Silicon Valley startup Pseudo Networks.
Cooke is no stranger to travel. She has lived in Amsterdam, Paris, London, Washington DC, New York, Taipei, Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Singapore. She is fluent in English and possesses an intermediate fluency in Mandarin.
Cooke graduated from Georgetown University in 1994.
