Vice President and Managing Director, ESPN Asia Pacific
Mike Morrison is Vice President and Managing of ESPN Asia Pacific. Based in Shanghai, he is responsible for ESPN’s interests in Asia-Pacific, which includes overseeing ESPN’s businesses and interests in Australia, New Zealand, India, China, Southeast Asia and Japan. He oversees ESPN’s diverse business in the region that includes a portfolio of TV, online and mobile businesses as well as ESPN’s strategic partnerships and collaborations. That includes ESPN’s successful multi-platform business in Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands, as well as ESPN’s multi-year collaborations with Sony Pictures Networks in India and Tencent in China. He also oversees the company’s media distribution and syndication business across the region.
Additionally, Morrison works closely with ESPN’s global digital media teams in developing its world-leading digital media business in the APAC region. The company’s leading online and mobile brands include ESPN’s localized multisport sites and apps in India, Australia and Southeast Asia, ESPNcricinfo (the world’s leading digital cricket brand), ESPNFC (the company’s global football vertical) and ESPNfootytips – the number one tipping and fantasy games platform in Australia.
From 2008 through 2015 Morrison was based in ESPN’s Singapore and Hong Kong offices where he managed changes and expansion in ESPN’s business in Asia Pacific, including serving as a member of the board for the ESPN Star Sports joint venture and overseeing the sale of ESPN’s 50 percent stake to News Corporation in 2012. During the period he also helped lead the expansion of ESPN’s business in Australia and New Zealand, including the launch of ESPN HD, ESPN2 and ESPN3, as well as the acquisition of ESPNfootytips.
Morrison joined ESPN in 2007 with the acquisition of the North American Sports Network (NASN) from Benchmark Capital and Setanta Sports. At NASN he served as commercial director, overseeing the distribution and acquisitions. Prior to NASN, he played a key in role in the global expansion of Bloomberg Media, initially managing sales and distribution for Bloomberg Television and Radio in the US and later managing the international media business in EMEA and Asia.
