West Indies Aim to Defend 2012 Title as Group Stage Begins March 16 from Bangladesh

WT20

ESPN Caribbean will air live coverage of the fifth I.C.C. World Twenty20 (T20) competition, commencing with the Group Stage from March 16 to 21 from Bangladesh. The day-night matches will air exclusively from cricketing arenas in Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylhet via the ESPN Caribbean television network, as well as on ESPN Play (www.espnplay.com) — ESPN’s multiscreen live and on-demand broadband service.

This year’s edition has expanded from twelve to sixteen teams. Six Associate Members advancing from last year’s I.C.C. World T20 Qualifier will join Full Members, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe, to comprise the initial eight teams in the Group Stage. These squads have been divided into two groups with Group A consisting of the host nation, as well as Afghanistan, Nepal and Hong Kong. Group B contains Zimbabwe, Ireland, United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.) and Netherlands with both Group winners proceeding to the Super 10 stage of the tournament, commencing March 21.

Group A winner will enter Group 2 of the Super 10, which consists of the reigning champions, West Indies, as well as Australia, India and Pakistan. The winner of Group B will enter Group 1 alongside England, New Zealand, South Africa and 2012 beaten finalist, Sri Lanka. The top two from each Group will advance to the Semi-Finals, beginning April 3, en route to the Finals on April 6.

The Super 10 and subsequent knockout stages will also be brought exclusively by ESPN Caribbean, with cricket analysts Barry Wilkinson and the legendary Colin Croft hosting the ESPN Cricket Report in between double-headers as well as the ESPN Cricket Final post-match show recapping the day’s highlights. Follow all the action at #ESPNWT20 as ESPN Caribbean continues coverage of the West Indies’ participation in major I.C.C. tournaments, connecting the region’s fans with the sports they love.
