West Indies stun Pakistan by five wickets to enter semi-finals to face hosts
ESPN Caribbean continues live, exclusive coverage of the world’s elite One Day International (ODI) youth competition, the 2016 I.C.C. U19 Cricket World Cup, with the semi-finals and finals taking place from Dhaka, all at 9.30pm ET on the ESPN Caribbean network. The semis start tonight as three-time winners, India, face Sri Lanka, with West Indies battling hosts, Bangladesh, on Wednesday, Feb 10 at 9:30pm ET. Watch it live and exclusively as well on ESPN Play (www.espnplay.com) — ESPN’s multiscreen live and on-demand broadband service.
The Windies, aiming for their first final since 2004 and first trophy ever, coasted to victory after restricting Pakistan to 227 in their 50 overs. Umair Masood made 113 in vain with Salman Fayyaz chipping in with 58. Chemar Holder joined the squad in Bangladesh just a day before, coming in for the injured Obed McCoy, and grabbed two for 26 to spearhead the bowling. Tevin Imlach then proceeded to smash 54 with West Indies skipper, Shimron Hetmeyer, adding 52. Shamar Springer also contributed 37 to continue his impressive form to race home with 60 balls to spare. “It feels good to be through to the semi-finals. We just stuck to our plans and executed what we had worked on at practice. It was probably a good toss to lose because our bowlers did very well to take those early wickets. This was a wonderful result for us,” said Hetmeyer.
