West Indies face three-time titlists, India, in Dhaka
ESPN Caribbean culminates its live, exclusive coverage of the world’s premiere One Day International (ODI) youth competition, the 2016 I.C.C. U19 Cricket World Cup, with the grand final pitting West Indies against India. The finale will take place from Dhaka on Saturday, Feb 13 at 9.30pm ET on ESPN Caribbean and ESPN Play (www.espnplay.com) — ESPN’s multiscreen live and on-demand broadband service.
The Windies, making their first final appearance since 2004, will be aiming for their first trophy ever at this level. Shimron Hetmeyer’s team eliminated the hosts, Banglandesh, in a comfortable three-wicket win after restricting them to 226 in their 50 overs. Mehedi Miraz made 60 but Keemo Paul nabbed three for 20 with Shamar Springer and Chemar Holder both taking two for 26. Springer delivered an all-round man-of-the-match performance with an unbeaten 62 with skipper, Hetmeyer, cracking 60 and Gidron Pope chipping in with 38 as the visitors strolled to 230 with eight balls to spare.
“Credit to the bowlers for not allowing Bangladesh to run up a big score. It was a good wicket to bat on, but we did well to keep them down to 226. Springer was excellent as always. We lost quite a few wickets, but as long as Springer was out in the middle we knew we had a great chance. We are very excited about playing India in the final. It will be a very good contest,” said Hetmeyer.
