Airs Friday, February 7 at 12:00 p.m. ET on ESPN Caribbean
ESPN will air The Match in Africa 6, the sixth edition of the tennis exhibition, presented in partnership with Rolex and benefitting the Roger Federer Foundation, live on ESPN television and its digital platforms in the Caribbean.
The match will feature 20-time Grand Slam Champion and current No. 3 Federer, who will play his first-ever match in his mother’s hometown, Cape Town, South Africa, and 19-time Grand Slam Champion, No. 2-ranked rival Rafael Nadal. The match will support children’s education in Africa and will be held at Cape Town Stadium which holds a capacity of over 50,000, the biggest audience ever for a tennis match. The event aims to secure the highest number of tennis fans at a match, as well as the highest number of people watching around the world. The current record was set less than two months ago during Federer’s exhibition tour of Latin America at the Plaza de Toros in Mexico City with an attendance of 42,517 spectators.
Coverage will also include a pro-celebrity doubles match between Federer and Bill Gates, founder of the Microsoft Corporation, against Nadal and South African comedian Trevor Noah. Leading up to the match, Cape Town-based Zip Zap Circus and South African youth choir Ndlovu will provide exclusive performances.
Live action begins Friday, February 7 at 12:00 p.m. ET, with coverage on ESPN Caribbean. ESPN Play, ESPN’s multiscreen live and on-demand broadband service in the Caribbean will also stream the matches live.
