ESPN re-launches and re-brands

London UK – December, 2009: ESPN Digital Media today announced that it will re-brand and re-launch its motorsport website as Acquired last year by ESPN, the new site will be re-designed and re-imagined to more effectively integrate with the company’s other industry-leading digital sports properties,,,, and the forthcoming

The new-look site, which will go live today, will focus on Formula One. The site will be run from ESPN’s London offices and will be under the Editorship of newly hired award-winning motorsport journalist and presenter Claire Furnell. 

“The new will build upon the strong heritage and audience that built, while adding ESPN’s technical and editorial know-how to deliver focused F1 coverage to fans at a new level,” says Tom Gleeson, Vice President ESPN Digital Media EMEA. “F1 has a huge global following and as a global leader in sports it is natural for ESPN to provide fans all over the world with coverage that has the same depth and quality as and our other digital properties. The site will be packed with news, features and comment, including from Sir Stirling Moss, hired as a lead columnist. It will also offer F1 fans:

  • Profiles: at launch the site will feature a full profile for each current driver and team and every grand prix. In time profiles will extend to every driver and will add full results for every team and grand prix. will be in available in three language versions English, French and Japanese. 


 About Sir Stirling Moss

Sir Stirling Moss is amongst the greatest all-round racing drivers of all time and an icon of the motor racing world. Known during his career as ‘Mr Motor Racing’ he began his connection with the sport in 1948 at the age of 18. He drove for Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar, HWM, Maserati, Rob Walker Racing, Vanwall, Cooper and Conaught Engineering teams among others, and has driven more than 80 different types of cars in his remarkable career. Four times he finished runner-up in the F1 World Championship, and in a career that stretched from 1948 to 1962, Moss won 212 of the 529 races he entered, including 16 Formula One grand prix. In 1960 Moss was inducted into the International Motorsport Hall of Fame and in 2005 he was awarded the FIA gold medal in recognition of his outstanding contribution to motorsport.

Claire Furnell joined as the site’s editor, having already established herself as being among the leading motorsports journalists in the world. She has presented and covered motorsports on television, in print and on radio, including stints with Sky Sports World Motorsport, Autocar and F1 Racing Middle East, the Granada Men and Motors team and more. She was honoured as the Guild of Motoring Journalists Young Motoring Journalist of the Year (2007) and is an avid racer as well. Although she has driven many modern machines she now competes mostly in historic circles in her father’s collection of vintage cars.
