ESPN TO TELEVISE CARIBBEAN TWENTY20 TOURNAMENT

ESPNcricinfo and ESPN Classic augment coverage with related content

ESPN is to bring cricket fans around the world, including those in the UK and Ireland, televised coverage of the Caribbean T20 – the annual Twenty20 cricket tournament in the region. The tournament is set to feature some of the top players in the world, including those that helped lead the West Indies to the T20 World Cup title.

ESPN will broadcast selected matches from the tournament on its TV networks in the Caribbean, the UK and Ireland, Pacific-Rim, Middle East, Israel and north Africa, plus, sub-Saharan Africa. Schedules will vary by region. On broadband, the sports media company will provide coverage of all matches in the Caribbean and Latin America via ESPN Play, and, in the US, Australia and New Zealand via ESPN3.com.

The tournament will give fans an opportunity to experience West Indies cricket after the region’s team were crowned ICC Twenty20 world champions in October. Among the players competing are Kieron Pollard, Sunil Narine, Darren Sammy, Andre Russell, Dwayne and Darren Bravo among others.

ESPN will begin its coverage on Sunday January 6th with Trinidad & Tobago, who won this year’s edition of the tournament, up against Jamaica at the Queen’s Park Oval, in the Port of Spain. ESPN will bring fans live or as-live coverage of every game until the final on Sunday January 20th in St. Lucia.

The 2013 tournament features a new format, with each team playing six group-stage matches, up from four in this year’s tournament. The seven regional teams competing will play each other once and the team with the most points at the end of the group-stage stage will automatically qualify for the final. The other finalist will be decided after a playoff between the second and the third-placed teams in the group-stage. The winner of the tournament will also qualify for the 2013 Champions League T20.
