Brian Kelly’s team are set to face Alabama, the reigning national champions, who ended the season with a 12-1 record and defeated then third-ranked Georgia in the South Eastern Conference (SEC) Championship to earn their third appearance in the national championship game in the last four years.

The four BCS Bowl games begin on New Year’s Day with the Rose Bowl (Wisconsin v Stanford), followed by the Discover Orange Bowl (N Illinois v Florida State). The next day, Wednesday 2nd January, it is Louisville v Florida in the Allstate Sugar Bowl, and on Thursday 3rd January, the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl features Oregon v Kansas State.
