ESPN LAUNCHES GROUNDBREAKING NEW UK SPORTS NEWS INFO APP

ESPN today announced the launch of an innovative first-of-its-kind sports app in the British mobile sports market, which gives fans control of their mobile sports news and information experience. ESPN UK is a feed-based app that gives control to the fan – allowing users to personalise their own news service and easily discover all the content most relevant to their interests.

Launching today in the App Store and Google Play, the new app will bring together ESPN’s unmatched range of content from its family of leading digital brands including ESPN.co.uk, ESPNcricinfo, ESPNFC and ESPN.com, into a consolidated, constant feed which each user can personalise easily. 

Key features and functionality include:

    MyESPN personalisation allows the user simple, one-touch management of personalised delivery and filtering of content based on their favourite sports, leagues and teams.  A fan’s individual news and content stream can be as wide-reaching or as narrowly focused as they want.

    With a single swipe, fans can move to a real-time all-sports feed to keep a finger on the pulse of the latest in sport.

    Both the MyESPN personalised stream and the all-sport stream can be filtered by the type of content a user wants to receive — live scores, results, news, analysis, video, Twitter and Facebook posts, and much more — making it compatible to how the individual chooses to digest their sports news.

    Constant real-time updates to both the user’s MyESPN feed and the all-sports feed – to satisfy a fan’s thirst for the very latest information.

    Key sporting events will be highlighted with curated feeds throughout the year, with the ability for fans to control those with the same level of personalisation.

    Fans can set and update personalised alerts and have news and scores for their favourite sports, teams and leagues pushed to them to ensure they miss nothing. 

    One-touch social sharing of content on Twitter and Facebook.

Designed and developed by ESPN in conjunction with LBI and NETCO Sports, the app’s API-driven news feed updates in real-time, displaying the latest news and content as it comes in – making the latest story the top story and encouraging sports fans to return to their news feed as the key stories of the day are constantly unfolding. A tablet version of the app is in development and is expected to be launched in late September.

The innovative functionality allows for a variety of advertising packages to be utilised throughout the app which will see traditional digital and rich media formats presented in a dynamic new way.  Ads will be integrated into the app’s news feed and can be sold by sport, league or team for a more targeted and connective approach for brands.

For the past three seasons, ESPN developed and delivered ESPN Goals, allowing fans a whole new way to control when and how they get Premier League scores and see video clips of all the goals.  ESPN Goals continues as a live Premier League scores and social media app, though will not feature the video clips.
