Mexican Conductor Alondra de la Parra and Spanish Composer Lucas Vidal Create Original Music for ESPN International’s Presentation of Rio 2016

Composition Features the Queensland Symphony Orchestra

ESPN International unveiled today, at 100 days until the start of Rio 2016, a special collaboration with renowned conductor Alondra de la Parra and composer and two-time winner of the Goya prize Lucas Vidal of an original composition to be featured throughout ESPN’s coverage of Rio 2016 in Latin America and the Caribbean. Inspired by athlete stories, struggles and triumphs, the music was recorded with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra under the baton of de la Parra, its Music Director Designate.

ESPN will use the music in its programming, marketing and promotional efforts and feature a series of behind-the-scenes vignettes on its creation across its platforms. The full version of the theme will be unveiled August 5 with the debut of a music video featuring behind-the-scenes footage.

Alondra de la Parra has gained widespread international acclaim for her work. She holds the distinction of being the first Mexican woman to conduct in New York City, and is an official Cultural Ambassador of Mexico. De la Parra has led more than 70 orchestras around the globe, including some of the most prestigious orchestras of France, Germany, UK, USA, Japan, Brazil, Sweden and Russia like the Orchestre de Paris, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, RSB Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra and Milan’s Cameristi della Scala. She currently serves as the conductor and music director of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra.

Lucas Vidal is a recognized musician with degrees from the Berklee College of Music and The Juilliard School. He co-founded MuMo Production alongside Steve Dzialowski, who also collaborated on the creation of ESPN’s Rio 2016 theme.  Throughout his career he has composed a variety of pieces for movies, advertising, ballet and orchestra.  His most recent work includes the composition of the musical theme for Fast and Furious 6 and music for film trailers such as The Hunger Games, The Terminator and Interstellar.
