Anthony Slater

NBA Senior Writer

Anthony Slater joined ESPN in the summer of 2025 as an NBA senior writer following nearly eight years at The Athletic, where he covered the Golden State Warriors, one of the league’s most high-profile and successful franchises, through their dynasty phase. During his time there, Slater earned a reputation for insightful, source-driven reporting in breaking news, long-form feature and analysis form. His consistent and accurate reporting has made him a frequent reference point for national outlets covering NBA injury news and roster developments.

Slater began his NBA reporting career at The Oklahoman, where he covered the Oklahoma City Thunder during the Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook era. His path into sports journalism started while attending Oklahoma State University. While still a student, he interned twice at The Oklahoman and was eventually offered the Thunder beat at just 23 years old.

A native of Rohnert Park, California, Slater brings a distinct West Coast perspective to his NBA coverage, combining courtside access with a broader national view. He resides in El Dorado Hills, California, and is entering his 13th season covering the league.
