Vice President and International General Counsel ESPN International
David Ballantine is Vice President and Associate General Counsel for ESPN International, and is based in the company’s New York City offices. David leads all legal requirements for ESPN’s worldwide international business, as well as selected U.S. domestic matters.
Ballantine joined ESPN’s London office in 2006 as European Regional Counsel, where he was the lead attorney for ESPN’s business in Europe, Middle East and Africa. Ballantine was instrumental for numerous acquisitions such as ESPNCricinfo.com, ESPNScrum.com, Racing-live.com, ESPN America (formerly North American Sports Network), and most notably ESPN’s rights acquisition of Premier League matches, a huge step for ESPN’s business in the UK market launching ESPN’s first live UK network.
As part of his expanded responsibilities within ESPN International, Ballantine supports the company’s EMEA business, including rights and programming acquisitions, distribution, product licensing, new media, litigation, and regulatory compliance.
Prior to joining ESPN, David was Executive Director of Legal and Business affairs EMEA for The Walt Disney Company. Prior to that, David worked at amongst others Richard Li’s Pacific Century Cyberworks launching Network of the World and at Hammer Films after its acquisition by Charles Saatchi
Ballantine is a UK qualified solicitor and received his undergraduate degree in Economics from Southampton University.
