Jerry Olaya is a sports commentator and the Spanish-language announcer for ESPN Deportes and ESPN International, joining ESPN in August 1996.   Olaya covers horse racing, basketball and the NHL. Prior to joining the network, Olaya distinguished himself on many ESPN projects, including the launch of SportsCenter, International Edition and the magazine show Football Weekend.

This New York City native launched his broadcasting career at WCBS-News 88AM as a news desk assistant. He soon moved to WKDM Radio 1380AM in New York, serving as an assistant national sales manager, promotions and public affairs coordinator, and announcer, as well as covering special events and hosting various talk shows. In 1993, he was part of the team that produced the first live Spanish-language broadcast of New York Knicks basketball and the New York City Marathon.

Olaya graduated from the City College of New York in 1989 with a bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism and also studied International Relations in Berlin. He is based in New York City.
