Kareem Copeland is a women’s basketball writer for ESPN who covers the WNBA and NCAA. He joined the company in April, 2026.

In over two decades in the business, Copeland has covered the WNBA, NBA, NFL, collegiate basketball and baseball and the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio. He joined ESPN from the Washington Post and previously worked at the Associated Press, Gannett and NFL Network.

While at the Post, Copeland covered the Washington Mystics, Washington Wizards, Washington Commanders, Maryland women’s basketball, Georgetown men’s basketball and Navy football. He’s worked Super Bowls and the 2014 BCS National Championship game.

In recent years, Copeland has established himself as an expert and one of the most trusted national reporters in the women’s basketball space, covering the business of the WNBA, the draft, trade deadlines, All-Star games, playoffs, Finals and NCAA Tournaments.

A native of Detroit, Copeland earned his bachelor’s degree in Sports Management and Communication at the University of Michigan.
