Vice President, Programming and Acquisitions
Matt Kenny – vice president, programming and acquisitions, ESPN – is the day-to-day point person on all business activities for Combat Sports and sets the strategy to help maximize audience and revenue across all platforms. Kenny also leads future rights negotiations and serves as the day-to-day point of contact for rights holders, such as UFC and Top Rank, and internal stakeholders.
Previously as vice president, affiliate sales, Kenny oversaw domestic distribution and content licensing efforts for MVPDs, digital MVPDs and digital accounts of the Disney and ESPN Media Networks (ABC, Disney Channel, Disney Junior, Disney XD, ESPN Networks and Freeform). In addition, Kenny was responsible for the distribution of all associated HD, VOD and TV Everywhere products. His team successfully completed Disney and ESPN Media Network’s first distribution agreement with an “over-the-top” distributor and negotiated digital MVPD agreements with the three largest digital distributors. He also led efforts to negotiate strategic partnership agreements for ESPN+, the company’s direct-to-consumer service.
Earlier in his career with ESPN, Kenny was responsible for the launch of ESPN video-on-demand, expansion of ESPN’s out-of-market subscription products and pay-per-view events. He is widely recognized as a strong collaborator and successful team leader. A 19-year veteran of the company, Kenny joined ESPN in June 1999 as a financial analyst where he was responsible for the operating budgets for multiple sport categories.
Prior to ESPN, Kenny served as an administrator for the division of athletics at the University of Connecticut where he managed the operating budget for all varsity sports and departments. Kenny also previously held positions with Nike and The Madison Square Garden Company.
Kenny received both his Bachelor of Science and MBA (Finance) from the University of Connecticut.
