Vice President, Edit, Animation, Graphics Innovation & Creative Production

Michael Szykowny serves as Vice President of Edit, Animation, Graphics Innovation and Creative Production (EAGP) at ESPN, a role he assumed in October 2023. In this position, he leads a multidisciplinary team responsible for powering daily creative, production, and content development across ESPN platforms.

Szykowny oversees EAGP’s comprehensive operations, functioning as both a creative partner and production leader, supporting departments across the company with cutting-edge storytelling tools such as AR/VR and touchscreen technology. His team also supports REMI and GREMI productions by providing specialized operators and serves more than 300 schools and packagers with graphics support across ESPN’s networks.

Since joining ESPN in 1997 as a Television Director, Szykowny has held several creative leadership positions, including Creative Director and Senior Director of Motion Graphics. He has played an integral role in shaping many of the brand’s most iconic content, spearheading brand identity packages for Monday Night Football, College Football, SportsCenter, NBA, NHL, WNBA, MLS, X Games, ESPYS, World Cup, Women’s World Cup, Euros, and more.

Szykowny has also overseen the creation of major music packages and environmental designs for ESPN, as well as driving innovation across alternate broadcasts, studio shows, and live event productions. He led the creative development for ESPN’s groundbreaking, multiple Emmy Award-winning Toy Story Funday Football Alt-Cast.

Before joining ESPN, Szykowny served as a Television Director at WIVB-TV in Buffalo, New York, contributing to live coverage of the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres.

A 15-time Emmy Award winner, Szykowny has also earned multiple honors from the New York Festivals and the Broadcast Design Association (BDA). He is an active member of the SVG Graphics Committee and has been a featured speaker at conferences hosted by SVG, Sports Business Journal, and other industry forums.

Szykowny is passionate about mentorship and community involvement. He currently mentors colleagues at ESPN and has also done so through WICT. In addition, he coaches youth hockey and baseball in his local community.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Media Communications from Medaille College in Buffalo, New York.
