Sports Betting Analyst
Preston Johnson joined ESPN as a sports betting analyst in conjunction with the launch of Daily Wager, the network’s first daily program devoted to sports betting news and information, in March of 2019. In addition to appearing on Daily Wager, Johnson also writes two columns per week for ESPN’s digital platforms, including ESPN.com.
Johnson, a Las Vegas-based handicapper known in the industry as the “Sports Cheetah,“ specializes in using analytics and game theory as a sports bettor. He has been betting since 2005 and in his words, “betting with an edge” since 2009.
Prior to joining ESPN, Johnson had appeared on multiple media platforms to discuss sports betting.
Johnson, who has a Masters degree Sport Psychology from the University of Utah, lived in Portugal for two years and speaks Portuguese fluently. One of his proudest sports moments occurred when he once scored a goal in a pick-up game on Cristiano Ronaldo’s cousin.
He also is a musician, playing drums and writing songs in a punk rock band called Ambition. Originally from Los Angeles, Johnson lists his favorite sports teams as the Lakers, Dodgers and FC Porto.
