Richard Hendrix
College Basketball Analyst
Richard Hendrix joined ESPN in 2023 as a college men’s and women’s basketball analyst for the SEC Network and ESPN. During his inaugural season with the network, he provided color commentary during the SWAC and ASUN championship games. He also appears frequently on SEC Now.
Before joining ESPN, Hendrix worked as a television and radio analyst with the Crimson Tide Sports Network, which is affiliated with the University of Alabama.
Hendrix retired from professional basketball in 2021 after a 13-year career. He was drafted by the Golden State Warriors in 2008 with the 49th overall pick. The former power forward spent one season with the Warriors before taking his talents overseas, where he had an illustrious career that spanned 12 seasons in 7 countries, including Spain, Israel, Italy, Russia, Turkey, France and Japan. Hendrix played for notable clubs such as Maccabi Tel Aviv, Olimpia Milano, and Lokomotiv Kuban, winning eight titles and making many All-Star appearances. In 2013, he was named EuroCup Finals MVP.
Hendrix graduated from the University of Alabama in 2008, completing his degree in three years before turning pro. He was a two-time All-SEC Performer and an Academic All-SEC member (2008). In his final season at Alabama, he led the SEC in rebounds. He finished the 2008 season with averages of 17.8 ppg and 10.1 rebounds. He was named an AP All-American Honorable Mention.
As a highly decorated prep athlete, Hendrix was named a 2005 McDonalds All-American and a two-time Parade All-American and represented USA Basketball in the 2005 Nike Hoop Summit. He was also the 2005 Mr. Basketball for the state of Alabama and finished his prep career as the state’s all-time leader in rebounds and blocks.
In 2024, Hendrix was selected as an “SEC Legend” representing The University of Alabama and inducted into his hometown’s Limestone County Sports Hall of Fame.
Today, Hendrix is married with three children and is committed to nurturing a new generation of athletes. The Athens, Ala. native has conducted the “Richard Hendrix Basketball Camp” since 2010. Hendrix is also a passionate youth sports coach, coaching basketball, baseball, soccer and flag football.
