Award-winning journalist Ryan S. Clark serves as a National Hockey League (NHL) writer, covering the league across ESPN Digital platforms. With more than two decades of experience, Clark delves into nuances of different issues and topics in the NHL throughout the season. He is believed to be the first Black and/or Hispanic national writer to ever cover the NHL.
Prior to joining ESPN in September 2022, Clark covered the NHL and Seattle Kraken with The Athletic. Signing with The Athletic in 2018, Clark started off as a beat writer for the Colorado Avalanche. His reporting led to his transition into a national NHL writer and the inaugural beat reporter for the Seattle Kraken, marking his role as a pivotal figure in chronicling the team’s entry into the league.
Before his tenure at The Athletic, Clark worked in various newsrooms across the nation, including the Tacoma News Tribune and the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. First published at the age of 13, he began his professional career at 16. Clark earned a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from the University of Maine and currently resides in Seattle.
