Michael Smith, who joined ESPN in 2004 after years as a newspaper sportswriter, is a commentator and host.

Smith was a reporter for the Boston Globe (2001-2004) where he served as the paper’s NFL and New England Patriots beat writer. He began his journalism career while a student at Loyola University in his hometown of New Orleans by serving as a sports reporter and copy editor for the New Orleans Times-Picayune.  He received a bachelor of science degree in mass communication in 2001.

Smith has appeared on ESPN studio programs in a wide variety of roles including as an NFL reporter and insider for SportsCenterNFL Live and Sunday NFL Countdown. He also has appeared as a panelist on Around the Horn and the former ESPN program The Sports Reporters.

He began providing insight and analysis on Fantasy Football Now and Fantasy Football Kickoff in 2016, and Smith was a correspondent for the newsmagazine program E:60 from 2007-10.

Smith previously co-hosted the His & Hers podcast with Jemele Hill, and the two began hosting a sports discussion TV show of the same name in 2014 on ESPN2. The two also hosted SC6 with Michael and Jemele from early 2017 until early 2018.
