Vice President and Editorial Director, Global Digital Content

Patrick Stiegman is Vice President and Editorial Director, Global Digital Content, overseeing the development of ESPN’s digital editorial content around the world.

Stiegman is responsible for driving the editorial vision and strategic leadership for a global organization, leading content efforts for more than 20 international editions of ESPN.com and ESPN’s industry-leading app across six continents, as well as global sport verticals such as ESPNCricinfo.com, international syndicated sports content partnerships and coverage of major global events. He works in close coordination with content leaders across ESPN, the product and technology teams at The Walt Disney Company, regional sports general managers and business partners in the Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution group.

Stiegman oversees ESPN’s global editorial standards, content and project development, integrated editorial creation and both global and local sports coverage, with management of digital writers and multimedia contributors across multiple languages and markets, including Europe, Africa, India, North and Southeast Asia, Australia, Latin America and Hispanic content in the U.S. His role includes influencing and developing a forward-thinking staff, inspiring a global workforce and creating unified, multicultural, multi-national, diverse and inclusive teams, as new lines of business and ESPN international digital editions emerge.

An experienced and decorated journalist and digital media innovator, Stiegman has chaired the ESPN Editorial Board — a company-wide, cross-disciplinary team of leaders who guide and inform editorial standards of conduct – and contributes to ESPN’s world-class, cross-platform enterprise, commentary and investigative journalism. A two-time Emmy Award winning executive producer, Stiegman was most recently Vice President, Editorial Director, Digital and Print Media, leading content and editorial direction of ESPN’s domestic digital and print properties and managing an award-winning team across ESPN.com and ESPN The Magazine.

Stiegman joined ESPN as executive editor in May 2004, overseeing premium content and daily sports coverage, and subsequently was promoted to Executive Producer, and then Vice President and Editor-in-Chief of ESPN.com. Prior to joining ESPN, he spent five years as Vice President and Editor of Journal Interactive, the award-winning Internet division of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, where he was responsible for editorial, business and strategic development of Journal Communications’ new media initiatives.

He previously held senior management, editing, columnist and reporting roles at several Wisconsin newspapers, wire and online services, including Journal Interactive, the Milwaukee SentinelBadger Plus magazine, the Wisconsin State Journal, the Wausau Daily Herald, Oshkosh Northwestern and both AP and UPI.

Though he only embraced the sport in recent years, Stiegman has become an avid runner, having completed more than 125 half marathons, 27 marathons and four IRONMAN 70.3-mile races since 2012. He has finished four Boston Marathons, six New York City Marathons, two Marine Corps Marathons and two Walt Disney World Marathons, including runDisney’s 48.6-mile “Dopey Challenge.”

Stiegman was a 2012 Fellow in the Sulzberger Executive Leadership program at the Graduate School of Journalism and School of Business at Columbia University. He is a 1988 honors graduate and journalism major at the University of Wisconsin, where he was a University Scholar in the UW-Oshkosh Journalism School, and also minored in communications and political science.
