ESPN Deportes Radio Expands in Florida Radio Network Launches This Week on WAMA 1550 AM in Tampa and WAMT 1190 AM in Orlando
ESPN, Inc., announced today that ESPN Deportes Radio, the only around-the-clock national Spanish-language radio network in the U.S., will launch in Tampa as ESPN Deportes WAMA 1550 AM and Orlando as ESPN Deportes WAMT 1190 AM this week. ESPN Deportes Radio launches in both markets as the only 24/7 Spanish-language radio network.
“The Hispanics in the Orlando and Tampa markets are passionate about sports and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to bring them the best of sports radio, as well as be the first and only Spanish-language all sports station in these cities,” said Oscar Ramos, senior director and general manager, ESPN Deportes Radio. “These agreements reinforce our commitment to continued growth of the radio network among the top Hispanic markets across the country.”
“We are excited to welcome ESPN Deportes Radio to our multimedia platform which includes Telemundo Tampa, and our new web portal holaciudad!” said Jayme Ribeiro Neto, general manager of WAMA 1550 AM. Mr. Ribeiro Neto oversees all ZGS media properties in Tampa. “The launch of ESPN Deportes Radio in Tampa offers our local community the latest in sports news and information, and provides advertisers and marketers a unique opportunity to reach Hispanics in these communities”.
In 2005, ESPN Deportes opened its doors in Coral Gables as the hub of ESPN Deportes Radio studios. Since that time, the network has continued to grow both nationally as well as in the Florida market, achieving milestones in the Spanish-language radio industry. With these agreements, ESPN Deportes Radio is now available in four major Hispanic cities in Florida – Miami WOCN 1450 AM, West Palm Beach WJNX-AM 1330 AM, and now Orlando and Tampa.
“Having the ESPN brand in Tampa and Orlando over the last several years has proven to be a great success for our company,” said Bruce Maduri, CEO of Genesis Communications Inc. “We are very excited for our ESPN Deportes’ Radio partnership in Orlando and we are certain this deal will be a great benefit to our advertisers and listeners, especially with the recent marriage of the local Wide World of Sports with ESPN.”
With this new affiliate, ESPN Deportes Radio now has 39 affiliates nationwide and reach of 48 percent of Hispanic population in the U.S., including eleven of the top U.S. Hispanic markets. The radio network is also available nationally on SIRUS Satellite Radio.
WAMA in Tampa is owned by ZGS Communications, a Hispanic-owned media company with interest in radio, television and web. WAMT in Orlando is owned by Genesis Communications Inc., a six-station radio group operating as a Florida Corporation with headquarters in Tampa, Florida.
ESPN Deportes Radio offers a variety of sports talk programming and events, including exclusive, national Spanish-language broadcasts of Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game, League Championship Series, and World Series, Spain’s La Liga, South American World Cup Qualifiers, Copa América soccer tournament, NASCAR and much more.
