Team ESPN and V Foundation program features fans wearing favorite teams’ attire for $5 donation to cancer research March 18-April 6
Through Team ESPN and The V Foundation’s ninth annual “Show Your Spirit!”® campaign, everyone can be a player on the important team in fighting cancer, a disease that kills one American every minute of every day and will strike one of every two American men and one of every three women (source: NCI statistic).
Fans, companies, organizations and schools nationwide can take part in “Show Your Spirit” from March 18 to April 6, marking the first year the campaign will be held during the entire national college basketball tournaments (“Show Your Spirit” was the first two days of the tournaments in the previous eight years).
To participate, people are asked to contribute a minimum $5 donation to The V Foundation which “earns” them the right to wear their favorite teams’ apparel to work or school on the “Show Your Spirit” day or days they choose (from March 18 to April 6). Each participant will receive a button with The V Foundation motto “Don’t Give Up. . .Don’t Ever Give Up!”® to commemorate his or her support, and visibly remind others of the continued need for cancer research funding.
As a result of a sponsor underwriting the materials, 100 percent of contributions goes to cancer research.
ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU’s extensive college basketball post-season coverage will include every game from the Division I Women’s Basketball Championship (March 20-April 6); extensive action from the men’s NIT (March 16-April 1); the semifinals and championship of the Division II Women’s Basketball Championship (March 24 and March 26); and the Division I Men’s Basketball Opening Round game (March 16).
To register or for further information log on to www.jimmyv.org/showspirit/ or call 1-800-4JimmyV. Once a company registers it will receive a participation kit to help organize its Show Your Spirit Day.
The V Foundation
The V Foundation for Cancer Research was founded in 1993 by ESPN and the late Jim Valvano, legendary North Carolina State basketball coach and ESPN commentator. Since 1993, The Foundation has raised more than $90 million to fund cancer research grants nationwide. It awards 100 percent of all direct cash donations and net proceeds of events directly to cancer research and related programs. The Foundation, which has received seven consecutive top 4-star ratings from Charity Navigator, awards grants through a competitive awards process strictly supervised by a Scientific Advisory Board.
