Fifth Annual Bowl Set for Jan. 8 on ESPN

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – ESPN Regional Television announced today that the 2010-11 Bowl will be played Jan. 8 at Legion Field.

The game, in its fifth year, will feature a team from the BIG EAST Conference against a team from the Southeastern Conference and will be televised nationally at noon ET on ESPN.

“We are excited about playing on a Saturday as we have done in three of our four previous games,” said Mark Meadows, executive director, Bowl. “Saturdays have always been popular with fans, giving families an opportunity to attend the game together. Additionally, as the only bowl game televised on January 8th, more national attention will be focused on the Bowl and Birmingham.

The 2009-10 Bowl attracted a record crowd of 45,254 at Legion Field on Jan. 2, as Connecticut defeated South Carolina, 20-7. The BIG EAST boasts a 4-0 record in the Bowl.

The Bowl is an NCAA-certified college football game operated by ESPN Regional Television, which operates these other bowl games: the Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl St. Petersburg, Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl, MAACO Bowl Las Vegas, New Mexico Bowl, Sheraton Hawaii Bowl and Texas Bowl.
