Extensive College Football Schedule Features More Than 400 Games, Highlighted by All Five BCS Games, including National Championship, on ESPN Networks

To tweet this release: http://es.pn/byk0it

ESPN’s 2010 college football schedule will feature more than 400 regular- and postseason games across ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN3.com, ESPN 3D, ESPN Regional Television, ESPN Radio, ESPN Classic, ESPN Mobile TV and ESPN GamePlan.

Coverage will be highlighted by the entire Bowl Championship Series – the Rose Bowl Game (Jan. 1), Tostitos Fiesta Bowl (Jan. 1), Orange Bowl (Jan. 3), Allstate Sugar Bowl (Jan. 4) and Tostitos BCS National Championship Game (Jan. 10) – on ESPN for the first time as part of agreements with the BCS and the Rose Bowl Game. ESPN Radio will continue to broadcast all five BCS Bowl games.

Schedule highlights include (the majority of game selections will generally be made 12 or six days before the date as the season progresses):

  • 3D: An schedule of regular-season games and the Tostitos BCS National Championship, on ESPN 3D, ESPN’s newest network and the first 3D network to launch in the industry (schedule to be determined);
  • Bowls: Overall, ESPN outlets will present 31 bowl games as part of the highly rated Capital One Bowl Week, including the five BCS games and the addition of the Insight Bowl (Dec. 28 on ESPN), inaugural New Era Pinstripe Bowl (Dec. 30 on ESPN), inaugural Dallas Football Classic (Jan. 1 on ESPNU) and Gator Bowl (Jan. 1 on ESPN2);
  • Live games on line: More than 350 games on ESPN3.com, including approximately 40 exclusive games plus simulcasts;
  • Prime-time action: Saturday night action across ABC, ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU and weekly ESPN and ESPNU Thursday prime-time telecasts;
  • Reverse mirror: As many as 12 Saturday afternoon windows will offer “reverse mirror” coverage, featuring ABC’s split national telecasts televised regionally on ESPN or ESPN2 and ESPN3.com to markets receiving another game on ABC;
  • Additional Outlets: A weekly broadcast on ESPN Radio; ESPN Mobile TV simulcasts; ESPN Regional Television syndication; extensive schedule on ESPN GamePlan, ESPN’s outermarket pay-per-view service; and select games on ESPN Classic;
  • High definition: Every ABC, ESPN and ESPN2 telecast and all live Thursday and Saturday ESPNU games produced in high definition.

The season will begin with the third annual Dick’s Sporting Goods Kickoff Week, Monday, Aug. 23-Monday, Sept. 6, featuring extensive studio programming and 32 games in five days, concluding with Boise State vs. Virginia Tech from FedEx Field, home of the Washington Redskins, Monday, Sept. 6, at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN and ESPN3.com as part of an ESPN Labor Day doubleheader.

Regular-season coverage will conclude with Championship Saturday on Dec. 4 and include three conference championships — the Dr Pepper ACC Championship Game on ESPN and ESPN3.com at 7:45 p.m., the Dr Pepper Big 12 Championship Game on ABC at 8 p.m. and the Conference USA Championship Game (time and network TBD) — and three BIG EAST games that could play a role in the conference title. ESPN2 and ESPN3.com will televise the Marathon MAC Football Championship Game on Friday, Dec. 3, at 7 p.m.

For the fourth consecutive year, ESPN will be the only network to offer coverage of home games from all six of the BCS automatic qualifying conferences (SEC, Big Ten, ACC, BIG EAST, Pac-10 and Big 12) in addition to the MAC, WAC, Conference USA and Sun Belt. ESPN will also televise road games featuring Notre Dame, Navy and teams from the Mountain West Conference.

Weekly Windows
The networks will offer an extensive schedule of games each Saturday, as well as matchups every Thursday and Friday and select Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Sundays. Highlights include:

  • ESPN on ABC: ESPN on ABC’s Saturday Night Football Presented by Southwest Airlines, broadcast television’s only weekly college football prime-time series, will highlight the network’s 45th season of college football coverage with showdowns between top programs every Saturday (except Sept. 11 and Oct. 16) at 8 p.m. beginning Sept. 4 with LSU vs. North Carolina. ABC will continue to broadcast top matchups every Saturday at 3:30 p.m. and select Saturdays at noon involving teams from the Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-10, ACC and BIG EAST.
  • Saturdays on ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU: On most Saturdays, ESPN or ESPN2 will offer a prime-time doubleheader as well as a noon telecast across both networks. On nights there is no doubleheader ESPN will generally televise a 7:45 p.m. game and ESPN2 a 7 p.m. telecast. ESPN or ESPN2 will continue to provide a “reverse mirror” of ABC’s 3:30 p.m. split national broadcast on ESPN or ESPN2, while ESPNU will offer four telecasts generally at noon, 3:30 p.m., 7 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.
  • Thursdays on ESPN and ESPNU: ESPN and ESPNU will both televise a Thursday night game every week, generally at 7:30 p.m. For the third consecutive year, every ESPN telecast will feature a team from one of the six BCS automatic qualifying conferences. The schedule will be highlighted by Auburn at Mississippi State (Sept. 9), Miami at Pittsburgh (Sept. 23), Nebraska at Kansas State (Oct. 7), UCLA at Oregon (Oct. 21), Florida State at N.C. State (Oct. 28), Georgia Tech at Virginia Tech (Nov. 4), Texas A&M at Texas (Nov. 25) and Arizona State at Arizona (Dec. 2).
