ESPNU Announces HBCU Football Television Schedule for 2010

ESPNU has announced its HBCU (Historically Black College/University) schedule for the 2010 college football season featuring games from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) and Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) leagues.

The MEAC will have eight games televised, highlighted by six conference matchups and two wildcard picks to be announced at a later date. Conference action begins Thursday, Sept. 30, at 7:30 p.m. ET with Hampton at Delaware State.  South Carolina State, the defending conference champion, has two appearances on ESPNU and Delaware State and Florida A&M, will also have two each.

Seven SWAC games will be televised in the lineup, including six conference matchups, culminating with the Farmers SWAC Championship Game at Legion Field in Birmingham, Ala., on Saturday, Dec. 11, at 2 p.m. on ESPN Classic. The conference slate opens with the State Fair Classic from the Cotton Bowl at Fair Park in Dallas, Texas, Saturday, Sept. 25, at 10:30 p.m. on ESPNU featuring Prairie View A&M vs. Grambling. Defending SWAC Champion Prairie View A&M, along with Grambling and Arkansas Pine-Bluff, each have two appearances.

As part of the HBCU series, the annual MEAC/SWAC Challenge Presented by Disney will open play at the Florida Citrus Bowl, Orlando, Fla., Sunday, Sept. 5, at noon on ESPN featuring Southern vs. Delaware State. The MEAC leads the series 4-1.

A part of the Internal Communications team at ESPN, I began with the network in 2010 as part of the College Sports PR team. Always an avid sports fan and not an athlete – I grew up a huge fan of the Hartford Whalers, while also watching my brother compete at different levels. I became the manager of several high school sports teams and continued that hobby into college. While at Quinnipiac, I worked in the Sports Information Department, which led me to a summer internship at the New Haven Ravens, a AA baseball team, and an eventual job with the Athletic Communications Department at the University of Connecticut. After my five-year stint at Connecticut, I spent six years as Director of Communications at the BIG EAST Conference in Providence, R.I. before joining ESPN.
