NACIÓN ESPN new Sports and entertainment program

ESPN launches new initiative for sports fans in Mexico


ESPN announced today the launch of Nación ESPN. It is a new program that is fun, edgy, innovative and culturally relevant sports television show fueled by fan interaction. Modeled after ESPN’s Sports Emmy-Award winning, fan-interactive program SportsNation, the Spanish-language adaptation will begin airing on ESPN 2 as of Monday May 23, 2001 at 10pm central time. Nación ESPN is the first program by ESPN Deportes to be produced from the ESPN’s studios at L.A.

The one-hour program will be hosted by two of the most recognized talents at ESPN, the charismatic Adriana Monsalve (ex-host of SportsCenter) and the legendary sports journalist David Faitelson (Cronómetro, Fútbol Picante).

Nación ESPN is a program of cultural relevance with a creative format that caters above all, to the voice of the fan.  The show will offer the most relevant news, information and debates.  Nación ESPN opens up with the most newsworthy sports-related stories of the day.  Sports fans’ comments and opinions are interwoven throughout the program via social media platforms, including Twitter and Facebook, telephone calls and polls, giving the sports fan an unprecedented and unique experience, the viewer having the ultimate control on the decision.

“Nación ESPN offers an innovative format, with this new show the sports fans will be offered the with the most newsworthy sports-related stories and will witness debates on the daily relevant topic of the day and will have the opportunity through the social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter, which allow Adriana and David  to interact in a more direct way with their public, commented Gerardo Casanova, Vice President and General Manager of Disney and ESPN Media Networks for Latin America North.

The attractive and unique format of Nación ESPN is composed of exciting segments from interviews with athletes and entertainment celebrities, even a few friendly video poll-games. The program’s segments include: ‘The Visit’, the segment includes interviews with special guests including prominent athletes, coaches, actors, singers, comedians and Hispanic public figures; ‘The Challenge’, a segment of friendly competition amongst the hosts and the guests: ‘Hot Topics’, a revolutionary way to discuss current events where Nación ESPN defines who won;  “The Play’, a section where sports are debated in a fun and entertaining way, and “Fan Photos” a segment where fans share their love of sports and share snapshots with the  audience.


David Faitelson is an internationally recognized, renowned sports journalist who joined ESPN in 2007. Prior to joining ESPN, Faitelson spent more than two decades as a sports reporter in Mexico.  He is best known for his insightful and inspirational reports of the colorful side of sports, ‘El Color de Faitelson’. He also contributes as an analyst and host for some of the network’s top shows including Cronómetro, Fútbol Picante and ESPN Deportes Radio’s morning show, Raza Deportiva.


Adriana Monsalve is an engaging, charismatic and versatile anchor that, for over five years, was best known as the female face and voice of SportsCenter. She has interviewed some of the biggest names in sports during her career. Each year, she brings unprecedented coverage of the ESPYs to ESPN Deportes and Latin America from the red carpet. A native of Caracas, Venezuela, Monsalve achieved her first taste of fame as the lead singer in the music band Latin Fiesta and later hosting a morning TV show.
