ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU Earn High Marks in Beta Research Cable Subscriber Evaluation Study

In Beta Research Corp.’s annual survey of cable subscribers, ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU continued to earn positive recognition across all audiences and within key demographics.

In the study:

  • ESPN and ESPNU ranked as the top two networks in perceived value among all network viewers. Among adults 18-49, ESPN and ESPN2 ranked as the top two channels in perceived value. ESPN has ranked first or second in five of the last six studies.
  • Additionally, 21% of all respondents named ESPN among their top five favorite networks. ESPN has ranked as a top five favorite channel for the past six years.
  • ESPN ranked in the top three favorite channels among high income households and those that viewed TV on a smartphone/tablet.
  • ESPN and ESPNU also ranked first (tied) in viewer satisfaction among adult male viewers over 18. Further, ESPNU ranked first in perceived value among female viewers. The study included ESPNU for the first time in 2011.

The online survey was conducted in August 2011 among a national sample of cable TV/telco TV subscribers ages 18+. The purpose of the study was to determine the quality, satisfaction and importance of basic cable networks.
