X Games Norway 2018 Announces First Wave of Athletes

Lil’ Yachty to Headline Musical Performances; ESPN and SAHR Collaborate with Norway’s NRK

Now in its third year, X Games Norway 2018 will once again bring together the world’s top action sports competition and musical performances to Oslo and Fornebu on May 18-20. In addition to three days of Ski & Snowboard Big Air and Skateboard Street competition, fans can also enjoy musical performances headlined by hip-hop artist Lil’ Yachty.

The first wave of 18 invited athletes includes Skateboarders Nyjah Huston and Leticia Bufoni, Snowboarders Mark McMorris and Jamie Anderson and Skiers Henrik Harlaut and Kelly Sildaru – all of whom are multiple-time X Games gold medalists. The next round of athletes will be invited at the end of March. The full list of athletes can be found on XGames.com.

The Men’s Skateboard Street Qualifiers and Women’s Finals will be held May 18 in the Skur 13 warehouse at Filipstad Harbor along the picturesque Aker Brygge and Tjuvholmen areas.  Both qualifying and finals for Ski and Snowboard Big Air, along with musical performances, will take place on Saturday, May 19 at the OBOS Big Air Arena in Fornebu. The Nordic Skateboard Qualifier and Men’s Skateboard Street Final will then close out the event on May 20 from Skur 13.

Born in Atlanta, Georgia, rapper Lil’ Yachty broke onto the scene in 2015 with his singles “One Night” and “Minnesota” off his debut EP, Summer Songs. With a sound he describes as bubblegum trap, Yachty released his debut mixtape Lil Boat in March 2016. In April 2016, Yachty collaborated with DRAM on the hit song “Broccoli”, which peaked at number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100.  On June 10, 2016, he announced he had signed a joint venture record deal with Quality Control Music, Capitol Records, and Motown Records. Yachty released his second mixtape, Summer Songs 2, in July 2016. On May 26, 2017, Lil Yachty released his debut studio album, Teenage Emotions.

ESPN will work with NRK on the Norwegian television production and with SAHR Concepts on the international show feeds and as the local organizer staging the multi-sport event.
