ESPN’s industry-leading FBS college football regular season, in which nearly 1,000 games were carried across its various channels, will conclude with conference champions crowned in the American Athletic, ACC, Big 12, MAC, Mountain West and Sun Belt. The final 24 hours of the regular season (November 30-December 1) will lead into Selection Day when ESPN will exclusively reveal the College Football Playoff field, the final College Football Playoff selection committee’s top 25 and the complete New Year’s Six bowl matchups.
Big 12 Championship Returns to ABC; No. 14 Texas and No. 6 Oklahoma Meet for Second Time This Season
ABC’s Saturday tripleheader begins with the Dr Pepper Big 12 Championship featuring No. 14 Texas vs. No. 6 Oklahoma (noon) from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The Longhorns-Sooners matchup for the conference title marks the first time the two schools have faced each other in the conference’s final game and, as a result, the first time the two schools have faced each other a second time in the same season since 1903. The Longhorns won the first matchup 48-45 in Dallas (Oct. 6), the Sooners’ only loss on the season. Sean McDonough, Todd Blackledge and Holly Rowe will be on the call, as the Big 12 Championship returns to ABC, its home from the 1996 season through the 2010 season. The conference didn’t play a championship game from 2011-2016.
ABC’s Saturday Night Football Features the Dr Pepper ACC Championship Game; No. 2 Clemson Looks to Lock in Fourth Straight CFP Appearance
ABC’s Saturday Night Football will televise the ACC Championship featuring No. 2 Clemson vs. Pittsburgh (8 p.m. ET) from Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C. The Tigers can win their fourth consecutive ACC Championship which would subsequently likely earn them a spot in the College Football Playoff field for the fourth consecutive year. Pitt is making its first appearance in the ACC Championship game, while Clemson is making its sixth appearance. Chris Fowler, Kirk Herbstreit, and Maria Taylor will be on the call for the game.
American Athletic Conference Championship: Memphis and No. 9 UCF Face Off for Second Consecutive Year; Knights Look to Finish Undefeated for Second Straight Regular Season
The American Athletic Conference Championship will feature Memphis at No. 9 UCF (3:30 p.m.) on ABC, as the Knights and Tigers meet in the conference championship game for the second consecutive season and also stage a rematch of their regular season matchup from October. The Knights won both of those games, as part of their nation-leading 24-game winning streak. Bob Wischusen, Brock Huard, and Allison Williams will be in Spectrum Stadium in Orlando, Fla. for the game.
Fresno State at No. 23 Boise State in Mountain West Championship and Louisiana at Appalachian State in the Inaugural Sun Belt Championship Game
ESPN will televise the Mountain West Championship between Fresno State and No. 23 Boise State in primetime (7:45 p.m.) and the inaugural Sun Belt Conference Championship featuring Louisiana at Appalachian State earlier in the day (noon). Steve Levy, Brian Griese and Todd McShay in Boise, Idaho, for the Mountain West Championship game with Jason Benetti, Kelly Stouffer and Oliva Dekker at Appalachian State for the Sun Belt Championship.
Pinnacle Weekend Begins with Northern Illinois and Buffalo in the Marathon MAC Championship on ESPN2
The Marathon MAC Championship between Northern Illinois and Buffalo (7 p.m.) on ESPN2 from Ford Field in Detroit will begin the weekend on Friday, Nov. 30. The Huskies are looking for their first conference championship since 2014, while the Bulls haven’t appeared in the game since they won back in 2008. Clay Matvick, Dan Orlovsky and Paul Carcaterra will be on the call.
SWAC Championship: Southern at Alcorn State
ESPNU will televise the SWAC Championship featuring Southern at Alcorn State (4:30 p.m.). This Braves won the regular season matchup between the two schools, defeating the Jaguars 20-3. Tiffany Greene, Jay Walker, and Taylor Davis will be at Jack Spinks-Marino Casem Stadium in Mississippi with the call.
ESPN is the Home of College Football’s Selection Day
ESPN will once again offer college football Selection Day coverage Sunday, Dec. 2, including the final reveal of the College Football Playoff selection committee’s rankings. The CFP Playoff field, final top 25 rankings and the New Year’s Six matchups will be announced between noon and 4 p.m. ET, with a more precise schedule released later this week.
