Malcolm Brogdon

College Basketball Analyst

Malcolm Brogdon joined ESPN in 2026 as a college basketball studio analyst. One of the most decorated and accomplished players in Virginia history, Brogdon was a unanimous consensus first-team All-American, ACC Player of the Year and two-time ACC Defensive Player of the Year during his collegiate career. He also played nine seasons in the NBA, winning the 2016-17 Rookie of the Year and 2022-23 Sixth Man of the Year awards.

During his career at UVA, Brogdon helped the Cavaliers earn 111 victories, make four NCAA Tournament appearances and capture two ACC regular-season championships and the 2014 ACC Tournament title. As a senior in 2015-16, he became the first player in conference history to earn ACC Player of the Year and ACC Defensive Player of the Year honors in the same season. He was also named the NABC Defensive Player of the Year and finished his collegiate career with 1,809 points, then ninth on Virginia’s all-time scoring list.

Brogdon’s No. 15 was retired by Virginia in 2017. In March 2026, he returned to the university as a strategic advisor to the men’s basketball program.

Selected by Milwaukee with the 36th overall pick in the second round of the 2016 NBA Draft, Brogdon became the first second-round selection to win NBA Rookie of the Year since 1965. He later played for Indiana, Boston, Portland and Washington, earning NBA Sixth Man of the Year honors with the Celtics in 2022-23. He concluded his nine-year NBA career with averages of 15.3 points, 4.7 assists and 4.1 rebounds across 463 regular-season games.

Beyond the court, Brogdon served as a vice president on the National Basketball Players Association Executive Committee from 2019-25 and played a leadership role in the negotiation of the 2023 collective bargaining agreement. He earned a bachelor’s degree in history and a master’s degree in public policy from Virginia.
