Steve Shaw joins ESPN as a college football rules analyst on the lead ABC crew following a distinguished career in officiating and football administration. Prior to the 2026 season, Shaw stepped down as the secretary-rules editor for NCAA football and as the national coordinator of officials. During his time as coordinator Shaw helped lead enhancements in video and communication systems now used by most Football Bowl Subdivision conferences and chaired the CCA National Mechanics Committee and helped completely modernize the mechanics for NCAA football officials.
Shaw served as the Southeastern Conference coordinator of football officials starting in 2011 as well as the Sun Belt Conference coordinator of officials’ beginning in 2014.
Before his time in administration, Shaw was known for his impact on the field; working 22 years as a referee. 16 of those years were spent in the SEC and 6 of those years at the Division II level. Shaw officiated 2 BCS National Championship Games, a total of 8 BCS games and four SEC championship games.
