Ahead of this year’s SEC Football Kickoff event, ESPN coordinating producer Brad Buchanan walks through what he’s most excited for in Tampa and what viewers can expect from the more than 50 hours of original programming.
In your expanded role this year, what are you most looking forward to as SEC Football Kickoff gets underway?
This year marks the first time SEC Football Kickoff will be held in Tampa, and the new host city provides a fresh backdrop for what promises to be a fascinating week. I’m excited to see how our extensive lineup of shows and talent cover some of the league’s biggest storylines, including six new head coaches headlined by Lane Kiffin’s blockbuster move from Ole Miss to LSU. Similarly, there will be a tremendous group of returning quarterbacks, and several teams with legitimate championship aspirations.
One of my responsibilities is cueing the commissioner and coach before they walk to the main media podium. It’s a unique opportunity to witness the moments just before they step into the spotlight. I’m fascinated by how different coaches approach the occasion. Those glimpses into their personalities are one of the most interesting parts of the week.
With SEC Football Kickoff taking place in a new city this year, what opportunities does this new setting create?
Four different states have hosted the event in the last four years, and hosting in Tampa provides an opportunity to showcase the continued growth of the conference while introducing a different energy to the event. Every host city brings its own personality, and Tampa’s vibrant sports culture will create a fresh backdrop for our coverage. SEC Nation starts the week outside of Benchmark International Arena, allowing the city and the SEC fans to be a part of the show.
What can viewers expect over the course of the four days?
Viewers can expect comprehensive coverage of the SEC’s introduction to the 2026 football season. We’ll carry every head coach’s press conference, feature interviews with standout players from each program and provide extensive access to coaches both on set and behind the scenes.
Additionally, fans will get in-depth analysis from our deep roster of analysts and personalities as they break down key storylines, championship contenders, quarterback battles and the biggest questions facing each team.
