With the annual Little League World Series underway, and the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks only weeks away, a new ESPN E60 celebrates the life and legacy of Michael Cammarata, the only player whose number has been retired at the LLWS and the youngest member of the Fire Department of the City of New York ever to die in the line of duty.
L1V1NG ON: The Michael Cammarata Story, debuts Wednesday, Aug. 19, at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN, streaming afterward on the ESPN App. The 30-minute documentary follows ESPN’s live telecasts of four LLWS games beginning earlier that day at 1 p.m.
Michael Cammarata was the starting right fielder for the Staten Island team that went all the way to the U.S. championship game at the 1991 Little League World Series. A decade later, as a 22-year-old New York City firefighter, he was among the 343 firefighters and the nearly 3,000 people killed in the Sept. 11 attacks.
Through interviews with Cammarata’s family, friends, teammates and co-workers, E60 host Jeremy Schaap tells the story of Cammarata’s too-short life, and his legacy, which lives on in the hearts and minds of those who knew him best, and in Williamsport, where his number 11 occupies a unique place in the annals of the Little League World Series.

The E60 episode will re-air on Saturday, Aug. 22, at noon on ESPN, leading into LLWS pre-game at 12:30 p.m. and a LLWS game at 1 p.m. A shorter version of the story will air as a SportsCenter SC Featured segment on Sunday, Aug. 23, debuting in the 8 a.m. hour and re-airing in other editions throughout the day.
