ESPN to Air Two Running-Related Documentaries Following TCS New York City Marathon Coverage

ESPN will present two documentaries exploring the personal stories and challenges of distance running on Sunday, Nov. 1, on ESPN following its live coverage of the 2026 TCS New York City Marathon earlier in the day.

9:30 p.m. – The Endless Race
The documentary follows several New York City Marathon participants in recovery from substance use disorders as they train for and compete in the race alongside the support of their families. The story takes a personal turn for the film’s director, whose brother has long struggled with substance use, as she unexpectedly becomes part of the story she set out to tell.

10:30 p.m. – Still They Run
Kenyan women have dominated distance running, winning the past seven editions of the New York City Marathon. However, their success has also brought growing risks at home. The E60 documentary examines the disturbing rise of gender-based violence against female athletes in Kenya and the dangers these women face as their athletic achievements and visibility increase.

Also available is The Fastest Girl in Somalia, ESPN’s award-winning 30 for 30 Podcasts series chronicling the remarkable story of Somali Olympian Samia Yusuf Omar and her pursuit of a return to the Olympic Games. Reported by journalist Teresa Krug, the five-part series explores Samia’s journey from the 2008 Beijing Olympics through the extraordinary challenges she faced while chasing her dream of competing in London in 2012. The series, which received the Audio Nonfiction Reporting Award at the 2026 Tribeca Festival, is available on ESPN.com, the ESPN App and wherever podcasts are available.

The TCS New York City Marathon’s first live national television broadcast aired on ABC in 1981. Since 2013, ESPN2 and ABC7/WABC-TV have served as the broadcast homes of the race. In September, the marathon broadcast received its third consecutive New York Emmy Award for Sports Program – Live (Single Program).
