ACC Network Football Analyst
Nine-year NFL wide receiver and former Virginia Tech standout Eddie Royal is a college football analyst for ACC Network, ESPN’s network devoted to Atlantic Coast Conference sports.
Royal appears on ACCN’s signature football studio show, ACC Huddle, which travels every Saturday to campuses throughout the ACC Football season. Royal joined ACC Network in August 2021 and has called games for the network in addition to his studio role.
Royal played in the NFL for nearly a decade. Drafted by Denver in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft, he spent four seasons with the Broncos (2008-11) and his remaining years with the San Diego Chargers (2012-14) and Chicago Bears (2015-16). Royal’s best season was his rookie year when he had 91 receptions for 980 yards and five touchdowns, earning him 2008 NFL All-Rookie Team honors. In nine pro seasons, Royal amassed 408 receptions for 4,357 yards and 28 touchdowns. Also a return specialist, he returned three punts and one kickoff for touchdowns.
In college, Royal played four seasons at Virginia Tech and was a three-year starter (2005-07). In 2007, he helped the Hokies win the ACC Football Championship Game and was named to the All-ACC First Team. Royal finished his career in Blacksburg as the Hokies’ career leader in all-purpose yards (4,686) and totaled 119 receptions and 12 receiving touchdowns.
A native of Alexandria, Va., Royal graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in sociology.
