Jeff Borzello

College Basketball Reporter
Jeff Borzello is a college basketball reporter for ESPN, covering the men’s game across all platforms with a focus on breaking news, roster movement, coaching changes, recruiting, and in-depth reporting on the evolving landscape of college sports.
Since joining ESPN in October 2014, Borzello has become a key voice in college basketball coverage, writing weekly Power Rankings during the season and tracking offseason roster changes, coaching shifts, and the transfer portal. He also contributes to ESPN’s NBA draft coverage and serves as one of the network’s primary reporters on basketball recruiting.
Borzello’s reporting has taken him to some of college basketball’s biggest moments—and most unexpected ones. He was part of ESPN’s comprehensive coverage of the 2017 FBI investigation into college basketball, reporting live from Louisville when Rick Pitino was dismissed and later from a federal courthouse in the Southern District of New York during a pivotal trial. As a reporter who thrives on information gathering, Borzello credits his high school superlative—Class Gossip, Sayville High School 2005—as an early indicator of his future in breaking news.
He has witnessed some of the most iconic NCAA tournament buzzer-beaters in person, including Jordan Poole’s shot to lift Michigan over Houston in 2018, Jalen Suggs’ overtime winner for Gonzaga in the 2021 Final Four, and Lamont Butler’s Final Four buzzer-beater for San Diego State in 2023.
Before joining ESPN, Borzello spent three years (2011–2014) as a college basketball reporter for CBS Sports and was a contributor to FOXSports.com during the 2010-11 season. He began his career in 2005, founding the college basketball blog Busting the Bracket and freelancing for a range of outlets as a recruiting reporter.
Borzello graduated from the University of Delaware in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in history and political science, with a concentration in journalism.
An active member of the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA), Borzello has been recognized multiple times in the organization’s Best Writing Contest. He is a voter in the Associated Press Top 25 poll and serves on the voting panels for several of college basketball’s most prestigious Player of the Year awards.
