Kyle Bonagura joined ESPN in January 2014 and currently covers college football for ESPN.com, with a focus on enterprise reporting and feature storytelling across the West Coast. Known for his curiosity and sharp reporting instincts, Bonagura is passionate about uncovering the human stories that define college football—from five-star recruits to the unexpected characters who help shape the sport’s culture in every college town.

He considers it a privilege to chronicle the sport’s evolution and bring depth to his storytelling. One of his favorite assignments was covering the World Cup in Qatar, a month-long experience that he describes as unforgettable.

Before moving into a national role, Bonagura began at ESPN covering the Pac-12 and later expanded to cover broader college football topics. From 2021 to 2024, he also served as a national soccer reporter.

Prior to ESPN, Bonagura worked as a high school sports reporter for Bay Area News Group (2006–2010), covered the 49ers and Stanford for CBS Sports (2011–2013) and the Golden State Warriors for CSN Bay Area (2013).

A native of San Ramon, California, Bonagura studied journalism at Washington State University. His enterprise reporting has been honored by the Football Writers Association of America and he was ESPN’s nominee for best reporting in for the National Magazine Awards in 2022. He was also a Webby Awards finalist in 2021 for a data visualization project and contributed to ESPN Digital’s 2023 nomination for general excellence at the National Magazine Awards.

Outside of work, Bonagura enjoys playing soccer, cycling, traveling internationally, reading, and playing chess—even if he claims he’s not very good at it.
