ESPN New York Radio Host & Play-by-Play Commentator

Since joining ESPN in 2008, Ryan Ruocco has served as a play-by-play commentator on numerous properties. Ruocco is a member of the lead NCAA women’s basketball commentating team, alongside analyst Rebecca Lobo and reporter Holly Rowe.

In addition to his work on NCAA women’s basketball, Ruocco is a primary play-by-play announcer for ESPN’s NBA coverage and has served as the lead play-by-play commentator for the network’s WNBA coverage since 2013.

Ruocco’s resume also includes periodic NFL play-by-play on ESPN Radio as well as college football play-by-play on ESPN’s television networks. Earlier in his career, Ruocco co-hosted ESPN New York Radio’s mid-day show.

In addition to his ESPN coverage, Ruocco is a long-time commentator for the YES Network. Ruocco serves as a play-by-play commentator for the Brooklyn Nets telecasts and fills a variety of roles on New York Yankees telecasts, including play-by-play, pre- and post-game hosting, and clubhouse reporting. Ruocco earned individual New York Emmy nominations in 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2019 for his Yankees and Nets coverage on YES.

Ruocco was also the co-host of The Ringer’s R2C2 podcast on Spotify alongside former New York Yankees’ pitcher CC Sabathia, which completed in July 2023.

A native of New York, Ruocco is a 2008 graduate of Fordham University where he majored in communications. He was deeply involved in Fordham’s highly regarded radio station, WFUV, where he hosted New York’s longest-running sports call-in show, “One on One”. Ruocco served as a play-by-play broadcaster and color commentator for Fordham basketball, football, and baseball. In 2008, Fordham honored Ruocco as the winner of the prestigious Marty Glickman Award, named for the legendary play-by-play announcer.
