Commentator
Sam Gore is a versatile play-by-play commentator and studio host at ESPN since 2004. He regularly announces professional tennis, as well as numerous NCAA sports and championships.
In professional tennis, he provides play-by-play and hosts on-site studio coverage of ATP and WTA events, as well as at the tennis majors ESPN covers: The Australian Open, Wimbledon and the US Open. At the US Open, he also hosts the multi-screen offering on DirecTV that ESPN produces. It offers the viewer a choice of matches and the ESPN feed the first seven days of the events.
He also calls the action for a number of college sports including basketball, gymnastics, indoor and beach volleyball, softball, baseball, track and field, golf, swimming and diving, and the Little League Word Series.
Since 2022, Gore has served as the host of the first dedicated volleyball whip-around show, The Fifth Set, with live action from every match site during the NCAA Tournament First and Second Rounds. He also is the anchor and host for the NCAA Volleyball Tournament’s Regional Rounds studio show.
In the past, he was the lead commentator for the ATP and WTA summer events on ESPN and ESPN2, and has called numerous other NCAA events, such as the NCAA Tennis Championships, Gymnastics at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, as well as the Professional Bull Riders Association.
Gore is a native of North Carolina and a graduate of the University of North Carolina. He now calls the Lake Nona area of Orlando, FL home.
