Former Heisman Trophy winner and Davey O’Brien Award recipient Andre Ware joined ESPN in 2003 as a college football commentator. Ware serves as a color analyst for weekly Saturday college football games across ESPN networks and regularly contributes to College Football Live and other ESPN studio shows.
In 2014, Ware joined SEC Network as a game analyst, working alongside commentator Dave Neal and reporter Cole Cubelic on SEC Saturday games. During the 2018 season, Ware called ESPNU Saturday games alongside Kevin Brown.
A native of Texas, Ware also serves as an analyst for Houston Texans radio broadcasts alongside Marc Vandermeer. Before joining ESPN, Ware was a commentator for CBS.
As quarterback for the University of Houston’s highly successful Run & Shoot offense, Ware won the 1989 Heisman Trophy as a junior. That season, he threw for 4,699 yards and 46 touchdowns while setting 26 NCAA records. He also won the Davey O’Brien Award that year.
Ware entered the NFL Draft in 1990 and was selected by the Detroit Lions in the first round with the seventh overall pick. He played for the Lions from 1990-93 and the Los Angeles Raiders in 1994. Ware also played in the Canadian Football League with the Ottawa Rough Riders, B.C. Lions and Toronto Argonauts.
In 2004, Ware was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.
