WNBA Playoff Bracket Set; ESPN2 and ABC to Carry Up to 10 Playoff Games

The WNBA playoff bracket has been set with the Washington Mystics and Seattle Storm grabbing the tops seeds in the Eastern and Western Conferences, respectively. ESPN2 and ABC will air up to 10 games, including all contests during the WNBA Finals.

Semifinal games will be played Aug. 25-30 and the conference finals Sept. 2-8. The first two best-of-three rounds will have a new format featuring the higher-seeded teams hosting games 1 and 3. In years prior, the first two rounds had the higher-seed opening on the road and hosting games 2 and 3. The WNBA Finals are scheduled to begin Sept. 12 with a best-of-five format.

ESPN2 will televise five games through the first week of the playoffs. The Los Angeles Sparks will play at Seattle Wednesday, Aug. 25, at 11 p.m. ET for game one of the series. Los Angeles, the fourth seed in the Western Conference, lost a 76-75 to Seattle in the regular-season finale for both teams Saturday, Aug. 21. Games continue in the West as the third-seeded San Antonio Silver Stars also have a rematch from their final regular-season contest, playing at the second-seeded Phoenix Mercury Thursday, Aug. 26, at 9 p.m. San Antonio grabbed a slim 83-82 win over Phoenix Sunday, Aug. 22. ESPN2 will also carry Game 2 of both series Saturday, Aug. 28 with Phoenix at San Antonio at 1 p.m. and Seattle at Los Angeles at 3 p.m.

In the Eastern Conference, ESPN2 will pick up Game 2 of the series as the second-seeded NY Liberty play at the third-seeded Indiana Fever Sunday, Aug. 29, at 8 p.m.

Game two of the WNBA Conference Finals between the Seattle Storm and Phoenix Mercury will be televised from Phoenix on Sunday, Sept. 5, at 3 p.m. on ABC.

A part of the Internal Communications team at ESPN, I began with the network in 2010 as part of the College Sports PR team. Always an avid sports fan and not an athlete – I grew up a huge fan of the Hartford Whalers, while also watching my brother compete at different levels. I became the manager of several high school sports teams and continued that hobby into college. While at Quinnipiac, I worked in the Sports Information Department, which led me to a summer internship at the New Haven Ravens, a AA baseball team, and an eventual job with the Athletic Communications Department at the University of Connecticut. After my five-year stint at Connecticut, I spent six years as Director of Communications at the BIG EAST Conference in Providence, R.I. before joining ESPN.
