RFP Process Begins for North American Cities to Host X Games
Global Action Sports Event Sets Foundation for Continued Growth
ESPN, the leading action sports content provider and creator of the X Games, will begin an RFP (Request for Proposal) process to identify interested cities from North America to host the X Games for a period of three consecutive years: 2014, 2015 and 2016 for a summer event; and 2015, 2016 and 2017 for a winter event. Interested cities may also submit proposals combining both summer and winter sports within the same X Games events. With the existing agreements between Los Angeles partner AEG and Aspen’s Aspen Skiing Company (ASC) concluding in 2013 and 2014, respectively, ESPN is seeking opportunities to move the event to new locations in North America and offer fans in those cities a chance to experience the X Games. In May, ESPN announced it would be expanding the X Games to Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil; Munich, Germany and Barcelona, Spain – joining X Games Los Angeles and Aspen to form a six-event schedule in 2013.
“The X Games has experienced tremendous growth over the past decade, in large part due to the partnerships we have enjoyed in LA and Aspen,” said Scott Guglielmino, senior vice president, programming and X Games. “As we embark on a year of unprecedented global expansion for the X Games in 2013, now is the perfect time to explore potential sites in North America for future X Games events.”
