Derby Telecast Up Six Percent from 2012
The 2013 Chevrolet Home Run Derby on ESPN – Oakland Athletics’ outfielder Yoenis Cespedes was crowned the Derby champion after a thrilling performance – delivered a strong 5.0 overnight rating, according to Nielsen. This is up six percent compared to last year’s telecast, which delivered a 4.7. It also marks the highest-rated Home Run Derby since 2009. Based on the overnights, ESPN was the top-rated network across all of television in prime time on Monday.

Several local markets experienced exponential growth for this year’s Home Run Derby. The telecast delivered a 9.0 rating in the Baltimore market, which is up 133 percent from 2012. Additionally, the Home Run Derby in New York – the host city for this year’s event – scored a 7.9 rating, which is up 19 percent from 2012.

The 2013 Taco Bell All-Star Legends & Celebrity Softball Game, which aired immediately following the Home Run Derby on ESPN, generated a 1.9 overnight rating, up 12 percent from a 1.7 in 2012. This is the highest-rated All-Star Legends and Celebrity Softball Game since 2010.
