World of X Games: ESPN Game of Skate Presented by Monster Energy Crowns Mike Mo Capaldi Champion
First Televised Competition from ESPN Headquarters to Air August 10 on ABC
ESPN X Games crowned Mike Mo Capaldi as champion in the Game of Skate presented by Monster Energy, the first time a televised competition has taken place at Bristol, Conn. headquarters. The skateboard contest based off of the classic basketball game of H-O-R-S-E took place on the ESPN campus in front of more than 1,000 employees.
In the final round, Capaldi faced off against Game of Skate veteran PJ Ladd, but asserted his dominance early as he fed off the energy from the crowd chanting his name. Capaldi kept Ladd on the defensive several times throughout the matchup as the two traded trick for trick, before Capaldi landed a switch backside 360 kickflip – never seen before in the Game of Skate. While Ladd played strong defense, he could not stave off Capaldi who would go on to claim the first-ever ESPN Game of Skate title.
“This whole experience has been so cool,” said ESPN Game of Skate presented by Monster Energy winner, Mike Mo Capaldi. “The Game of Skate is fun, but having it at the ESPN headquarters has been awesome especially because I’ve been a SportsCenter fan my whole life.”
Fans at home will be able to view the event on the World of X Games series on August 10 at 5 p.m. ET on ABC.
