ESPN Dresses Fans for the College Football Playoff with School-Themed Tuxedos


Clemson, Alabama, Michigan State and Oklahoma Fans Can Win the Ultimate New Year’s Eve Outfit Designed Exclusively by George Zimmer

 As Clemson University, University of Alabama, Michigan State University and University of Oklahoma prepare for the College Football Playoff Semifinals on New Year’s Eve, ESPN introduces the “New Year’s Eve Collection” — a collection of tuxedos reflecting the unique attributes and personalities of the four playoff teams. College football fans from each school will have a chance to win the perfect New Year’s Eve ensemble by entering at A total of 10 tuxedos from each school will be awarded in time for the big night.

Starting today through December 16, fans can enter the sweepstakes on by selecting the school design of their choice and entering their sizes. Ten lucky fans of each of the four schools will win the ultimate New Year’s Eve ensemble, in time to watch the Playoff Semifinal games on ESPN and ring in the New Year.

The first-of-its-kind collection, designed exclusively by George Zimmer, founder of the online men’s suit and tuxedo rental company Generation Tux, features tailored garments, jackets and pants, each showcasing the teams’ colors and inspired designs. Details on each of the suits include:

  • Clemson University: The tuxedo’s classy orange blazer and tiger-print tie will make Clemson fans the number one seed of any New Year’s Eve party.
  • University of Alabama: A classic Alabama houndstooth tuxedo, expertly crafted from the finest wool around and stylishly paired with a signature Crimson tie.
  • Michigan State University: This sporty Spartan tuxedo features stylish epaulettes that will pair well with any Michigan State Spartan helmet.
  • University of Oklahoma: This fine wool tuxedo features satin lapels, wagon wheel button and a suede vest for the most stylish of Sooners.

“New Year’s Eve is one of the most festive occasions of the year – and one that certainly calls for a tux,” said Zimmer. “With this collection, we’re making sure guys can now choose to show off their team spirit in unprecedented style.”

Emeka Ofodile, senior director of marketing at ESPN, added, “The goal in working with Zimmer was to connect the College Football Playoff to iconic New Year’s Eve traditions by helping fans to dress in style for football. With the ‘New Year’s Eve Collection,’ we want to capture the passion fans have for their school and communicate that New Year’s will officially never be the same with the College Football Playoff.”

The “New Year’s Eve” collection is an extension of ESPN’s “Who’s In?” campaign. “Who’s In?” was created in collaboration with creative agency Wieden + Kennedy New York. Additional spots as well as digital, print and social elements will run through the crowning of the National Champion in January 2016.

The College Football Playoff Semifinals at the Capital One Orange Bowl and the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic will air on ESPN December 31 at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. ET respectively.  The Capital One Orange Bowl will feature No. 4 Oklahoma vs. No. 1 Clemson and the Goodyear Cotton Bowl will see No. 3 Michigan State take on No. 2 Alabama.
