Women’s College Basketball: We Back Pat Games to Be Played on ESPN Networks

The SEC’s We Back Pat week kicked off in dramatic fashion when Tennessee defeated No. 6 Notre Dame, and will continue with more than fifteen games being played on ESPN networks. Coverage includes a slate of games on Sunday, Jan. 22, beginning with No. 6 Notre Dame facing North Carolina at noon ET on ESPNU. No. 1 UConn made history by beating their own winning streak with win number 91 after defeating SMU on Saturday. The Huskies will look to continue that winning streak as they face Tulane on Sunday (1 p.m., ESPN2).

On Thursday, Jan. 19, the Around the Rim podcast will also feature interviews with Kara Lawson, Tamika Catchings, Baylor head coach Kim Mulkey and Tennessee player Diamond DeShields, who all share their memories and the impact of the late Pat Summitt.

Big Monday presented by eBay will feature an exciting top-5 matchup, as No. 4 Mississippi State takes on No. 5 South Carolina on Jan. 23 at 7 p.m. Mississippi State is currently undefeated this season at 19-0.

espnW
espnW named Maryland’s Brionna Jones player of the week after leading her team in two close games that ended in victories for the Terps. Jones’s performance in wins over Penn State and Iowa put her above 1,000 career rebounds, while tying a school record with 42 points in the matchup against Penn State.

Charlie Creme also shares his latest bracketology, with a 64-team projection that deems Mississippi State a No. 1 seed.

This week’s content includes:

  • How Northwestern moves forward: After the suicide of teammate Jordan Hankins, how does the team move on? (Graham Hays)
  • Mid-major rankings (Graham Hays)
  • The Sun Devils have a lot of youth at guard, but some “old reliables” like Sophie Brunner and Quinn Dornstauder inside. And while they wait for the return of Kelsey Moos, who was hurt in the double-OT win at Cal, Arizona State hopes to grow a lot to be ready for a postseason run. (Mechelle Voepel)
  • Unbeaten Mississippi State plays South Carolina in a battle atop the SEC on Jan. 23’s Big Monday Mirin Fadar looks at one of the players who broke onto the national scene last season and is the driving force behind Mississippi State’s unbeaten run this season

Anna Negron

It was always a dream of mine to work at ESPN, and here I am! I joined the College Sports PR team in March 2016. Hailing from the great Garden State, I graduated from Seton Hall University (Go Pirates!) with a degree in sport management, where I not only sang the National Anthem at games, but was also a member of the Seton Hall Sapphires Dance Team and a student reporter for Pirate Sports Network. Before joining ESPN, I served as a Public Relations Associate for the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
