79 Cup matches per season to be streamed exclusively on ESPN+
ESPN+ will kick off its exclusive presentation of the 2018-2019 Emirates FA Cup season – the world’s most famous knockout competition in domestic soccer – with eight Round 1 matches today (Friday) through Monday. This weekend’s coverage marks the first set of 79 FA Cup matches ESPN+ will carry throughout the season, culminating in the Final at Wembley Stadium in London on May 18.
The first Emirates FA Cup match on ESPN+ will be a contest between two London teams – non-league side Haringey Borough FC vs. EFL League One’s AFC Wimbledon – on Friday at 2:50 p.m. ET.
The highlight of Round 1 matches on ESPN+ is two-time FA Cup champion (1939 and 2008) Portsmouth FC travelling to Berkshire, England, on Saturday, Nov. 11, to face National League side Maidenhead United at York Road, the team’s 4,000 capacity home ground. The Maidenhead-Portsmouth matchup is an early look at the “Magic of the FA Cup” – one of the most anticipated aspects of the competition that has fans of lower-division teams rooting anxiously for their clubs to become giant-killers by upsetting higher-ranked teams.
