A special WNBA pre-season matchup will tip off Thursday, May 9, at 7 p.m. ET on ESPNEWS as the New York Liberty host the Chinese Women’s National Basketball team at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. ESPN’s commentators Ryan Ruocco and analyst Rebecca Lobo will call the game.
This landmark game is the latest collaboration between the NBA/WNBA and the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA), who have a long history of working together to grow the game in China. Liberty ownership has organized this game to further people-to-people exchange between China and the United States, and support women athletes globally.
“We are very excited to be able to add this pre-season game to our already great WNBA schedule,” said ESPN WNBA producer Rodney Vaughn. “This game will provide WNBA fans with a first look at the #2 pick in the WNBA Draft Asia Durr, along with her new teammate Han Xu who was taken 14th overall by the Liberty.”
ESPN’s 2019 WNBA schedule of 18 games across ESPN and ESPN2 will begin Saturday, May 25, with Phoenix Mercury at Seattle Storm.
